Dillon Beach

The weekend before Labor Day (August 25th) we decided a trip to the coast was in order so we could fly that kite we'd purchased way back in the spring. And really to redeem ourselves as fun parents, I mean, we don't live that far from the coast and we never go.

We packed a lunch and headed out with no plan on which beach to actually visit. At the crossroads to head north to Bodega or to turn south to who knows what, we chose south and ended up at Dillon Beach. It was a great sandy beach, windy (though that was the whole point), and pleasantly cold.

I feel like Devin overcame some personal issues in walking in the sand without throwing a fit, and he ended up having a wonderfully terrific time digging and pretending to be an excavator, flying the kite with Daddy, and chasing seagulls. He did not enjoy getting his feet wet and told me it was way too cold.

Landon enjoyed the first 5 minutes of said adventure snuggling with Mama. Then he started giving a look that said, "Why, oh why are my parents subjecting me to this thing called wind?" Then he started coughing in indignation at the whole coast idea; then he starting crying about it. So we created a cocoon of warmth in his car seat and he fell asleep. When he awoke, he was much happier.

Britton family adventure success!

Millett Family Fun

We had a birthday celebration for Wendi and Zane, which involved Landon getting to know his aunts better and Devin getting completely covered in strawberry Creamie.

Sleepover with Grandma Millett

One of the most fun things Grandma had planned for the grandkids was a sleepover with her out in the backyard. The night started out with a pizza dinner and a swim in the pool and ended with a sleeping under the stars. I was nervous how Devin would do outside without a tent, and with sleeping through the night in general since he was having all his fun sleep drama while in Utah, but he slept out just fine. Another fun night of hanging out with the cousins and pretty much running wild!

Hogle Zoo

The whole Millett clan headed to the zoo and had a wonderful time (even if I preferred the aquarium :).  Of course we were missing the Knutsens, but the rest had fun. A lot of these pictures just show how Devin enjoyed the zoo.

Devin just loves all his cousins and couldn't get enough of all the animals. He also really enjoyed having a free ride in the stroller and having snacks whenever he wanted. The whole group descended on the music presenters and had a great time playing with all the instruments. On the car ride home Devin informed Grandpa and I that the chicken wandering around the zoo was his favorite animal of the day, though the polar bears were a close second.

Landon was chill in the stroller most of the time. Once he got fussy he was thoroughly entertained by Nicholas. Nicholas could get him to laugh hysterically just by jumping up and down.

This is my favorite picture from the day:
Devin was terrified of the wooden elephant that played music and sprayed air. Devin stayed close to Conner on the way over, and by the end Porter was holding his hand making sure Devin wasn't scared. All the cousins were so good to include Devin and keep him happy the whole trip to Utah.

Living Planet Aquarium

Grandma and Grandpa continued the week of fun by taking the grandkids to the aquarium. Devin thought this was great and was a crazy man the whole time. He was constantly on the run! Landon was sleeping in the front carrier, so Grandma and Grandpa had to do most of the chasing. Personally, I preferred the aquarium over the zoo. Perhaps because the zoo is not air conditioned?

Utah Fun

There was a lot of random fun to be had in Utah.

The first day there Devin got in on Grandpa's exercise time.
Landon was as cute as ever the whole time we were at Grandma and Grandpa's.
Once Christy's family got to town Devin was in heaven with all the cousins around, and Landon loved the constant attention. When we got back home I think Landon was confused why there was no one to make him happy the exact moment he started crying.
