I've tried to be better with taking baby bump pics with this baby. You can see my belly growth, and my face growth. It's getting fatter and fatter. Love that.

This
is a picture from the 37-week ultrasound we got to have today. I am measuring a
little small (I don't feel small, nor do I think I look small), so we got the chance to see the little man again. I may
be measuring small, but he is certainly not. He's healthy and fine and
apparently just all squished up and really into poking my bladder. So excited to meet this guy in about 3 weeks!
Mama: "Finish your milk, please, and then we can be done."
Devin: "No. NO! NOOOO!"
Mama: "Excuse me?"
Devin: "What did you say?" (Apparently this is what Mama says all the time.)
Mama turns toward the windows, so as not to let the child see her laugh.
Devin, in a truly interested voice and stretching to see out the windows: "See a tractor or something, Mama?"
To celebrate President's Day we planned one more adventure as a family of three.
I did a lot of searching trying to find a fun place to go adventuring (calling something an adventure makes it so much more exciting to the child) that also didn't involve hiking. I settled on the Discovery Museum Space and Science Center in Sacramento.
The selling point was the dinosaur exhibit that also included some pictures/things from Dinosaur Train. Devin is pretty into Dinosaur Train and all things dinosaurs right now.
The museum turned out to be pretty small, but it had some fun parts, and we had a great time. That night Devin kept telling us he was a T-Rex and was stomping around.
One of his favorite dinosaurs is a Triceratops, so of course this guy was a big hit.
The last part of our adventure (we also went shopping, because when we're near stores we must always go shopping) was to get some delicious ice cream at Leatherby's. I was super excited when I found out there was a Leatherby's in Sacramento and had been craving some of their ice cream since my discovery. It did not disappoint.
Devin's starting to get a cold, so that was enough excitement for one day for him. He was asleep within 5 minutes of being back in the car. Worn out, happy kid=another successful adventure!
Devin really likes all the random containers I let him play with. Playing with these things actually lends itself to developing more of his imagination. Rich loves that we keep all sorts of containers, spice bottles, and boxes.
As we cleaned up from breakfast on Sunday, Devin started asking us if we wanted "milk and toast," aka, a taste from his Eclipse gum container and wrench-shaped mint holder. Rich just turned to him and said, "I sure hope your baby brother likes playing with garbage as much as you do."
To which I responded that he shouldn't call it garbage since Devin likes it. Devin responded by shaking his finger at Daddy saying, "Don't say garbage Daddy."
The next day Devin was given a Frosted Flakes box, and it quickly became a treasure box that holds some "pretty fun" treasure. So yes, we have all sorts of wonderful "garbage" laying around the house. But it's pretty fun garbage if you ask the two year old.
We've been having some great weather, which means we've been having some great outside time. Devin loves digging wood chips, making his bouncy balls go high, and going down the slide. And he especially loves when Daddy gets out his motorcycle. He's a lot better about steering now, but Rich has to run alongside him to ensure he doesn't crash sometimes. It's pretty entertaining.
Devin says some great stuff lately. Favorites include: When he carries around his wheelbarrow and lawn mower saying, "It's heavy, heavy. Oh, it's heavy." When he digs or does something involving his "muscles" he says, "Devin's working hard. Hard work. Using muscles." And, whenever we hear a sound he asks, "Was it a car, plane, etc?" or When he finds something on the ground he always asks, "Was it a bug?"
Of course, we've also been having fun indoors. And it wouldn't be me if I didn't mention books in a post! Devin reads to himself all the time, and I just love hearing him repeat books back to himself. It's always interesting to find out the words and story lines he remembers. How could I not smile when I hear my two-year-old enthusiastically reading Edwurd Fudwupper Fibs Big saying, "Army and air force and dog catcher too!" and "Loudspeaker dishes a space . . . generals roared red in the face."
Aside from reading, we also do puzzles every day, and we always find a way to make each puzzle new and exciting. Devin has gotten really into music lately and loves to sing songs. He comes up with his own sometimes and is pretty good and remembering words to songs we sing often.
Just needed to save some pictures/memories that I loved.
First, Devin is a crazy little man. He loves running around in circles to make himself dizzy and entertains us with his antics most nights. Usually after falling down he will lay on the floor saying, "Oh my goodness. Devin's tired." He also really loves to take off his pants. Hopefully he grows out of this someday.
Second, Devin and his daddy watched the Super Bowl snuggle style. Love those boys.
Third, there is no picture, but to save the memory I needed to write it down. The other morning I got Devin up and after changing his diaper I stood him up and told him to give me a big hug, which he did. Then he just leaned in and gave me a kiss. Then said, pointing to my left cheek, "Kiss this cheek," followed by a kiss. He repeated this on the right cheek and then pointed to my nose and said, "Kiss this nose" and gave me a big kiss on the nose. Made the day start out PERFECT.
Wednesday Devin and I went on an "adventure." When I told him we were going to go on an adventure--in an effort to get him excited to sit the in the car for 2 hours--he immediately asked if we were going on a kangaroo adventure. He got this from the book Dog Loves Books. Seriously, makes me so happy he associates everything with some story we've read.
We met up with Michelle, Andrew, and Addy for one more get together before the baby comes (and again, there are only pics of Devin). We were going to go to the zoo again, but decided to try something new instead. We headed to the Bay Area Discovery Museum. It is a smaller children's museum, but we had a lot of fun, and the kids had a great time.
I think we'll go back when Devin is between 3-5 years old to take advantage of a couple places that were a little too old for him and Andrew. I wasn't aware that the museum was based mostly outdoors, but it ended up being super nice because the weather was wonderful and it felt so good to be out in the sunshine.
Devin was especially excited about the playground because of the dump trucks and shovels and asked to go back there a couple times.
He also loved the trains and playing with the water. It was a great day and all the activities and running around wore him out.
***Long post alert!*** Our family Valentine celebration extended for several days. We started by making some sugar cookies on Sunday night. Devin was super excited to roll out the dough, he was even more interested in sticking his finger into it. We didn't hand out any of the cookies that came from this section.
Monday night, for family home evening, we finished our cookie-making activity by frosting the cookies. Devin actually did frost one cookie. The other cookies he "frosted" was a lot of my work with him chopping at the cookies with his "scissors," which we were "really sharp." He also wanted to put purple sprinkles on every cookie.
The rest of the time was spent licking frosting, picking off sprinkles, eating cookies, and singing us various songs. The ABCs was on repeat. (I really need to figure out how to edit videos without ruining the format so there isn't ongoing conversation between Devin and myself.)
Rich and I went to work and frosted the rest of the cookies. We also ate many more cookies than was healthy.
By the time our FHE was over, Devin was reminding us we didn't sing an opening song. So we sang a closing song. And I know there are two videos, and I'm being an annoying mother, but I had to add both videos of him singing "I'm Trying to be Like Jesus." He makes me happy. So if you're not a grandparent, you don't have to watch. Grandparents are required, however.
On the actual day of Valentine's we celebrated 35-week-pregnant style. We ordered in some food so I didn't have to cook (yay for gift cards), though I did make a cheesecake for dessert--not that we needed more sugar, but it was good. My wonderful surprise from Rich was some beautiful orchids to replace the ones I killed several years ago.
