Toddlerisms. By Devin.

Things are just so much funnier/cuter/more surprising when the two year old says them. I've been collecting these for awhile and wanted to remember them.

*Holding his falling-apart muffin, "This is really fragile. You have to be very careful."

*"I don't like these Brussels sprouts. I would like some strawberries." I poked a sprout and asked him if he wanted to try it before having his strawberries. He just turned his head and said, "No. No thank you Mommy." At least he was polite.

*After coming in from outside I asked him what he did. He rattled off, "I drove my motorcycle and played with the sprinkler and pulled off the top and I chewed it and then I saw a cat and it was singing. Meow, meow!" I asked him what the cat was singing, and he told me "Book of Mormon Stories."

*He likes to talk/yell to the animals outside, "Cat! Cat, come back! I'm right here. Cat! I want to talk to you." or "Hi, Cat. You have cute ears." And, "Birdie, you are pretty cool. I want to see you."

*Looking out the window of the car, "I see clouds Mommy! They're white. I see a stegosaurus! In the sky!"

*He hasn't been feeling well and when I asked him where it hurt he told me, "It's not talking time! It's time to be quiet. I'm all better. I want to snuggle."

Church always provides some great moments:

*We have a rule that Devin has to sit on the bench or on our laps while in sacrament meeting. After I gave him his choices, he then looked at me and said, "I want to kneel. Is that an option?"

*On Sunday he was apparently getting antsy for Nursery, as he kept telling the speaker to "stop talking" and asked me "Is she done talking yet?"

*On Mother's Day he contributed to the talk. As Brother Comstock was discussing President Uchtdorf's talk here, and how when find ourselves judging others we need to just "Stop it!" Devin had perfect timing and repeated the "Stop it!" very loudly so the whole congregation could hear. He also likes to repeat random words from different talks; apparently he is listening amidst all the flailing around and asking for a different toy.

*After having to leave Nursery because he was screaming at the Nursery leader, and then having to go out to the car with Daddy for the remainder of church, he told me, "I made a bad decision. I was running away and screaming 'no' at Daddy, and then I sit in my car seat for alone time." He was asleep within 5 minutes of leaving the church.

Howarth Park Fun

We decided to have a Britton family adventure to Howarth Park in Santa Rosa. We started with a McDonald's picnic lunch.

Devin was not interested in sharing his barbecue sauce with his daddy.

 

After the food we headed to the train and carousel. 

 As soon as I put Devin on the horse he immediately wanted to get off.

He ended up staying on, but was pretty rigid throughout. I distracted him by telling him to tell the horsey to "giddy-up!" For the second ride he decided he was content to sit on the bench with daddy.

 

We then moved on to some playground fun, though Devin wasn't super interested in this for some reason, and then ended out the afternoon with some digging with the excavator, which, as you can imagine, was the BEST thing ever. He's pretty lucky Daddy decided to spring for a bit more money.

 

 

Landon slept in the car seat the whole time, but not before started the day by spitting up down the front of me, ensuring I had a nice stain on my shirt during all the family fun.

When he finally woke, he gave me this look.

Family Reading Time

Landon's first book solo was Hooray For Fish! He liked it a lot. Even though he likes reading books on his own, he tends to make sure he gets in on Devin's reading time, too.

I hope these early reading sessions ensure that Landon likes story time as much as Devin. The other morning Devin and I snuggled on the couch and read book after book for 45 minutes. It was a special, wonderful start to the day. Books rule.

Fun was had by all.

"I want to fly, Daddy," was a common phrase for several nights. Until I finally put the blankets away. It only took four days after washing and folding them. But those four days were sure fun.

2 Months

How the past two months have flown! 

Our Landon boy is sweet and chubby and a wonderful part of our family.

 He's still super chill and content most of the time. So much so, in fact, that it's even hard for me to tell when he wants to eat sometimes. But clearly eating is something he does well, despite my worries, as he is quite the little chunk.

 

Weight: 13 lb 4 oz (90th percentile)

Height: 23.5 in (75th percentile)

He has rolled over from tummy to back a few times, though I'm not sure if this was him being coordinated or if it was his large-ish head helping him be uncoordinated. At any rate, these episodes were recorded for all time in the book of all things Baby Landon.

Landon thinks life at two months is grand and coos and goos all about it.

Potty Trained

I've had this post written for some time but was afraid that posting this would jinx me. But alas, I needed to document the kid's success since I really am proud of him. And just so you know, we've watched the "Dinosaur Train" episode discussing dinosaur poop like 50 million times.

I'm not sure what I was thinking when we decided to jump into potty training when I was 37 weeks pregnant. But Devin was super excited about the potty, so we decided to take advantage of that excitement. My excitement was not so much, so I probably hindered some of his early progress, but he still did great (not done in the three days the method touted, but still great). It took some time to get the point that I can say he's completely, rarely has an accident, I can leave the house without having an anxiety attack, potty trained. But we're there. And we're in the process of filling in a potty chart with stickers to solidify this success. The best part: Devin doesn't even care about getting something after filling out the chart, he just wants to put stickers on the paper! Why, oh why, did I not do this earlier?

This mama says he looks pretty darn cute in his underwears.

Landon Newborn Pictures

 Marinda used her wonderful talents and took some newborn pictures and even created the announcement for us. (Yes, I'm just posting his newborn pics even though he is now two months. Totally on top of things over here.) The pictures turned out great, and these are some favorite shots.

Landon was awake for most of the shoot, and fell asleep when we got home, so I decided to take a few of him sleeping with my parent's camera. Obviously not as good as Marinda's, but I thought they were still cute. And I really must post every picture ever taken of the little man.

Visiting with Annalisa and Kids

Of course we didn't take a picture of the adults, but really we're just having fun watching the kids grow up together. So glad Annalisa's parents live nearby so we can see her when she comes to visit!

Clearly Devin was super excited about the picture-taking.

Landon and Rebecca are four months apart, and Landon is pretty much the same size.

Big Brother Things

Devin hasn't been too interested in Landon. He asks where he is and likes to know what he's doing, but he doesn't really try to interact a lot or want to touch him. Mostly he just asks if he's asleep.

Today was a wonderful glimpse into the future, however.

Landon woke early from his nap and was in his swing while Devin and I finished breakfast. Before Landon woke up I had promised Devin we would read two of his books, so I decided we would quickly finish the books before I fed Landon, but Landon started getting fussy before the second book. I got him and he finished the book with us. Devin reached over and took Landon's hand and held it throughout the story, and after I finished he gave him a big hug and asked to hold him. The moment was even sweeter since we were reading Love You Forever.

Later today Devin was eating lunch, so I put Landon in his chair by him so they could "talk." Devin immediately said Landon had smiled at him, then explained to Landon that he was having a peanut butter sandwich, and that he had teeth. Then he said, "You want to play? No, I can't play right now. I am eating my lunch, ok?"

Just some simple things, but in the moment they were big things.

Landon's Cheeks

I was going to put these pictures with my Mother's Day post, but I quickly realized these cheeks required a post all their own.

It appears this kid is not only going to have his daddy's slight dimples, but also a real one all his own. I hope it sticks.

Mother's Day

Being a mother is my favorite thing. And having a day to celebrate me was much appreciated :) The boys must have known it was a special day as Landon slept longer in the night than he had for awhile and then both kids slept until almost 8:00. It was so nice to wake up and feel rested!

Rich made sure the day was wonderful and that I felt love from all the Britton boys. Devin colored me a great card, gifted me some wildflowers he'd picked on his father and son outing, and Landon and Devin got me a gift card to get some new clothes.

We ended the day with a yummy dinner in the backyard and mixed up some homemade ice cream. Devin's favorite part of Mother's Day was "going high" in the swing for the better part of an hour.

And though I was reminded on Mother's Day how great my job is, this morning really highlighted how important my job is. With a stack of Ritz in hand, I sent Devin to play outside while I put Landon down for a nap. Devin waited until I came out to start eating his crackers so he could "share" with me. We sat on the back steps while I pretended to take bites of the crackers and sips of the water Devin was offering. After a bit I told Devin I needed to go work, you know, do work that pays actual money. His response was so candid and sweet: "Mommy, you don't want to sit by me and share my crackers anymore? Your tummy is full?" Of course I kept sitting next to him. Because he won't always want me to sit next to him. And though later today he screamed a lot, being "paid" by his sweet comments is the best wages I could ever hope to get.

I am definitely one lucky mama.

Fathers and Sons Camp Out

Rich took Devin on his first fathers and sons camp out on Friday night. 

After Devin woke up from his nap I told him we needed to pack a bag because he was going on a special date with Daddy. He was SO excited and was pulling the bag around the house helping to get ready faster. As soon as Rich got home Devin started bouncing around asking when they were going to leave.

 

Apparently the outing involved throwing a lot of rocks.

There was also a lot of excitement about Daddy letting him play with the steering wheel in the car. This video is long and not super exciting, but I thought the grandparents would enjoy it all the same. (Don't worry, the only things nearby are the cows.)

When Devin walked in the door on Saturday morning he was just beaming and told me all the details of the weekend several times. This was one special outing!
