Things He Says

"Devin is awesome." He will tell you this.

When we tell him it's time for prayer, he responds "Close eyes whole time!" usually with one finger up and wagging at us. He tends to then repeat this phrase throughout the prayer. When we had a family home evening on prayer, where we stressed we also needed to be quiet the whole time, it helped a little. But I've heard prayer-time in Nursery is interesting since clearly the other two-year-old children (including Devin) don't close their eyes during the prayer!

Tender heart moment the other day: While Devin was reading Max Lucado's You Are Mine and You Are Special to himself, he knew the difference between the books' messages (though they are pretty much the same) and read the different stories. The best part was when he said, "Dots and stars, dots and stars. So sad. Go see Eli. You are special."

Every time he yawns he says, "Oh. Devin's tired."

He's pretty into birthdays lately. He says "Happy Birthday!" all the time. It's his good-bye and the song he chooses to sing much of the time now. Examples: "Good night Devin. See you in the morning. Love you!" "Bye! Happy Birthday Mama!" And when we left the doctor's office on Tuesday, the nurses told him goodbye, to which he responded, "See you later. Happy Birthday!" Pretty sure they think my kid is the cutest :) We've decided this is his way of saying "I love you."

When I ask him if Daddy did something for him, he responds, "Yeah. Good Daddy." or "Nice Daddy."

 

Devin's Nursery leader told me this story today: Devin was the only kid in Nursery today, so while he was playing (during which time he was using the tool bench saying, "Working hard. Oh my goodness! Working hard.) the Nursery leader and her husband, who was keeping her company, were reading the Sunday School lesson. When they mentioned the name Nephi, Devin just perked up and said, "Nephi get brass plates." They just laughed and asked him what else Nephi did, to which he responded, "Nephi build a ship!" They assured me that this must mean he's listening to us sometimes!!

He makes us laugh a lot. And it's always surprising to find out what he's going to say next. Always a good time with him around.

32 Weeks

I'm about 33 weeks now. In the picture I'm 32. It seems unreal to be in the single-digit-week countdown. Only around 2 months left! 

Devin understands a little more about the "baby in Mommy's tummy." After my doctor appointment on Tuesday he finally will say that he's the "big brother." However, when I asked him if the baby brother was going to come live with us, Devin said, "Go in car. See baby brother." When I told him we didn't need to go in the car because he was going to come live with us, Devin responded, "No. No. Go in a car." We'll see how the actual transition goes!

Goy's Birthday Party

Devin was able to go to Goy's 3rd birthday party a few weeks ago. Devin was in heaven, as it was a Cars themed party, Goy has many shaker cars, and they were Cars shaker cars. It was a lot of fun to celebrate with Goy!

Julie caught some cute pics of the boy so there is documentation of the fun.

 

After the party, Devin got in some snuggle time with Daddy. 

Ever since Devin was sick before Christmas, he's really into snuggling. It's gotten to the point that whenever he knows he's in trouble, or he doesn't want to do something, he just says he wants to snuggle with one of us.

Monsters and Giants and Reading

As of late Devin has been talking a lot about giants--not sure why. (At first we thought our friends had taught him some love of the SF Giants, but this wasn't the case.) He has also been into monsters, etc.

The monster towel Grandma and Grandpa Millett gave him for his birthday was big hit.

Giant-love has gotten more intense since we got the book The Woods from the library. We discovered it on Tuesday; he had it memorized by Thursday. It really is a cute book.

This is a really long video, I'm sure only grandparents will care about the whole 5 minutes. Just to clarify, when he reaches out to hold Rich's hand, they're "marching into the dark together." We must always hold hands at this part.

This video has nothing to do with monsters or giants, but I had to include it because of the adorable reading. We first discovered this book (Job Site) when it was a brand-new acquisition for the library in August. We've checked it out at least 5 times since then. He's had plenty of time to memorize this whole book. It has also helped us during some discipline moments, as now we just have to say, "Boss says!" This is a long video, too. It's mostly for the grandparents.

Another Cookie Night

We decided after church that we needed to have a fun family activity. Naturally we focused on food. I told Devin he could eat some dough if he didn't tell Grandma Millett.

Sleeping Boy

I'm only posting this because I never get any sleeping pictures since Devin wakes up as soon as the door creaks. However, he's started an awesome new crazy sleep schedule, making for one tired little boy come morning.

2 Year Pictures

We actually had Devin's 2-year pictures taken at Thanksgiving, making him only 23 months, but we figured it was close enough and worth it to not have more craziness during our Christmas vacation

The pictures turned out pretty great, I think. Though Devin was getting grumpy toward the end and just wanted me to hold him.

 

And even though these were taken awhile ago and I'm just posting these now, I'm still going to add Devin's 2-year stats for historical purposes. 

 

 

 We headed to the doctor today, and, finally, Devin broke out of the 25% percentile and below stats with his rapid height increase! We knew he was growing. Nice to have it validated. Even if those stats really don't mean a whole lot since he's a healthy little man!

 

Weight: 26 lbs 15 oz (30-40% percentile)

Height: 35 1/2 in (75% percentile)

We are so blessed!

Week in Utah

We were so excited to have a whole week in Utah to visit with family and friends. Even with a whole week, we still never have enough time to see everyone or do everything we wanted, but it was still a wonderful time.

This is going to be boring for people who were not part of our visits. This is mainly just for my memory.

We got together for lunch on Tuesday with Selina, Preslee, Melinda, Rob, and Cooper. Unfortunately, there is no picture of this get together. We had a lot of fun catching up, though. Wednesday was a girls' lunch with Lindsey, and it was so fun to visit with her. 

Thursday we were able to go to the temple in the morning, and then spend the evening with Toni and Cody and AnnDee and Devon and children. Devin was overjoyed to play with Eli and Aurie and Kenleigh, even though he's not so great at sharing. He must enjoy himself more than I think however, because he keeps asking to play with them again. 

 

Saturday we met up with Dave and Jen, where Reagan and Devin could renew their love for each other. Jen and Dave's fancy camera settings really highlights the love they shared.

 

Wish we lived closer to all these wonderful friends! I do have to say, however, that it was nice to come home and get back into the swing of things.

Special Note: I would have been better with pictures at these get togethers, but the camera was dying and I was trying to save it for Devin's birthday. The end.

Christmas 2012

Christmas Eve was spent eating our wonderful Christmas Eve dinner and visiting with Great Grandma Peterson.

 

 

 

 

One of Devin's favorite activities at Grandma and Grandpa's house was to push all the buttons. He loved teasing Grandpa, especially, and it turned into quite the game between those two. Since coming home, he's told me repeatedly that he teased Grandpa by pushing the buttons.

Christmas morning we headed to church and got to hear my mom sing with the choir. Devin was pretty excited when he spotted Grandma up in the choir seats. When sacrament meeting was over, he immediately asked to go to Nursery, but he overcame his desire when I reminded him we got to go home to see if Santa had come.

Devin's present from Santa was a car mat and some Hot Wheels cars. When he saw the set up, he just ran over and started collecting cars. I think he was worried if he didn't grab them quickly they would be taken away! When we told him they were his, he then started lining them up.

 

 He loved looking into his stocking and was really excited about all of this and pretty much just started shaking the stocking around hoping for more prizes to emerge.

 

He did start to get slightly bored when he started opening presents and he had to wait his turn, but once he opened his dump truck from Grandma and Grandpa Millett he was set for awhile.

For historical purposes, Rich got me many wonderful kitchen gadgets, which I really wanted, and I got Rich some new shirts for work and some attachments for his oscillating tool. My sweet mother-in-law got me a pretty pie plate and a crust cover, which I've been wanting and forgot to ask for, so that was perfect! 

 

 

Santa even brought me some of my favorite cereal, which is really hard to find these days (and really I'm pretty cheap when it comes to what cereal I'll buy). He brought it all the way back from Missouri and had to buy it back in the spring!! :)

It was a great Christmas and a lot of fun to have our sweet boy so excited for all the celebrating. 

 We were pretty lazy the rest of the day and all took naps and just lounged around.

Road Trip

Devin did pretty great on both legs of our Christmas travels, even if he didn't go back to sleep after we started our trip to Utah at 3:00 am, and considering that he's two. He watched a lot of movies. And ate no semblance of a balanced meal on the two days we traveled.

Devin's 2nd Birthday

As Devin would tell people, we had ice cream, grapes, salad, and pizza to celebrate him turning two. We had a get together with some of his Millett aunts and uncles, and Grandma and Grandpa Britton came for presents and dessert. 

My boy is not shy about eating. He regularly looks like a chipmunk during dinner. Even when I try to get him to slow down, he just really wants to fit as much as he can into his mouth. It's like he's nervous there won't be enough to go around. Getting food into his tummy was the perfect remedy for waking up for a nap 5 minutes before the party was going to start. His sleep schedule was all whacked out in Utah!

 

 He was pretty concerned about my putting fire in front of his face. His first reaction was "fire is hot, hot!" He did attempt to blow out the candles though, so that was fun.

Then he really just wanted to lick the frosting off the cupcake.

 I thought he would like having ice cream cones for his dessert since a lot of the ABC books show ice cream cones for the letter "I," and he always gets excited about them.

Turns out it's more fun to talk about ice cream cones than to eat them (I don't think he likes cold stuff very much), but he enjoyed them enough to make it worth it for me.
 
He really just wanted to eat the cone part and started from the bottom. Who is this kid?!?

Devin loved getting more presents and was thrilled with all the attention. He got some really cute things and some great new toys to keep him occupied and entertained.

 

Grandma and Grandpa Britton got Devin some new movies; his very favorite was "Word World." This used to be on Netflix, but then they took it off. It was a sad, sad day for Devin. His excitement at seeing the DVD case was evidence that he REALLY wanted to watch it!

Devin was lucky his daddy agreed to bring his big motorcycle all the way to Utah, and he pushed the noise button to his heart's content. He's been seeing this motorcycle in the garage for awhile (since we found it at a garage sale for $2), and finally being able to drive it was a dream come true!

 

 

One lucky, adorable two year old! It was a great birthday for this kid, and we're so blessed to have him in our lives.
